What Is Love?

by Arlin Moore

Hey guys! Welcome to The 8AM Podcast Volume 001!!! We are super excited to be bringing you this weekly or perhaps bi-weekly podcast. On this podcast, you will hear college perspectives on topics varying from esoteric philosophy, to drunk college stories, and everything in between!

In this first episode, Jackson and I have our good friend Clare on the show to discuss the timely topic of LOVE on this fine Valentine's day.

This conversation gets intense! We hope you enjoy :)

Love,

  • In relation to your idea that ‘love is selfish’ think about this situation, if a guy loved a girl and he was in some kind of shit like I dunno he was going to fucking prison or he lived an ‘unhealthy lifestyle’ or whatever and he decided that he loved this girl so much that he had to let her go because he didn’t want her to worry or miss out on something better in her life, in my mind he’s making a big fucking sacrifice because he loves her so much… thoughts?
Also regarding the whole feminism idea I think that we as a society like to focus on the extremes because naturally it’s just more interesting so we’re drawn to these few extreme “feminists” who ‘man hate’ when actually that’s the complete opposite of what feminism is and is actually just sexism toward men. So I wouldn’t ever associate feminism with the idea of berating men or putting them down it’s simply to have the same treatment as men. Unfortunately a reaction your mate got from holding the door would be one of those extreme situations, like think about the amount of other times you’ve held the door for a girl and they’ve been grateful, so the extreme circumstance seems to stick in your head more than the other times. Also I think this has led to guys being concerned to be ‘chivalrous’ when actually being ‘chivalrous’ (opening doors and shit like that) is just being a nice human being and I think for guys it’s had this label of ‘chivalry’ put on it. Personally any sort of kind gesture made by ether a girl or a guy is welcome in my book, so I don’t think there should be this stigma that only guys should be chivalrous and I think just generally keep being kind and you’ll have people appreciate it more often than not.

  • Honestly such an interesting topic for a podcast and I just loved the back and forth between the 3 of you. It was super interesting to see everyone’s different perspective on love and how you were all willing to genuinely talk about it and take the topic serious and really like get to the meat of the it. You’re all very good at discussing and explaining things. Hearing Clare talk about that moment when she realized she was in love absolutely made my OWN stomach drop. Just a very good podcast you guys!! It’s cool to be able to hear a serious conversation about a genuine topic like love from young people and hear genuine answers knowing that I can relate to what all of you are saying and it not just being some goofy joke. Nice topic for Valentine’s Day. Good job to all 3 of you, really looking forward to more of these Arlin!!
